The Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development (MLGDRD) and the Office of the Head of Local Government Service (OHLGS), has organized a New Generation Leadership Training (NGLT) for Assembly Members of the Gomoa East District Assembly.

The training was aimed at equipping Assembly Members with the requisite knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to provide effective leadership and contribute meaningfully to the development of the district.

The programme focused on key areas of local governance and leadership, including effective representation of constituents, the roles and responsibilities of Assembly Members, effective communication and community engagement, conflict prevention and resolution, accountability, transparency and ethical leadership, as well as community development and participatory governance.

The training adopted a participatory approach, with participants actively engaged through presentations, group discussions, question-and-answer sessions and practical interactions. These activities provided participants with an opportunity to share experiences, discuss challenges and explore practical approaches to effective leadership and representation.

The programme was beneficial to the Assembly Members, as it enhanced their understanding of effective leadership and local governance while providing an opportunity for them to reflect on their responsibilities as representatives of their respective electoral areas.

The New Generation Leadership Training was therefore considered a timely and important capacity-building initiative, particularly in strengthening the capacity of Assembly Members to effectively serve their constituents and contribute to the socio-economic development of the Gomoa East District.

The Gomoa East District Chief Executive, Hon. Margaret Naana Ackom, expressed her appreciation to the Institute of Local Government Studies, the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, and the Office of the Head of Local Government Service for organizing the training.

She emphasized the importance of continuous capacity building for Assembly Members to enable them to effectively discharge their mandates and support the Assembly in achieving its development objectives.
