The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Gomoa East District, Margaret Naana Ackom, has officially cut sod for the commencement of the construction of a modern 24-hour market in the district.
The sod cutting ceremony, which brought together traditional authorities, Assembly Members, government officials, traders, youth groups and residents, marked a significant milestone in the district’s development agenda aimed at boosting local economic activities and improving livelihoods.
In her address, Hon. Margaret Naana Ackom stated that the project forms part of the government’s vision to promote the 24-hour economy policy by creating modern trading spaces that will support business activities day and night. She noted that the market, when completed, would provide a conducive and secure environment for traders and help create employment opportunities, especially for the youth and women in the district.
The DCE emphasized that the construction of the market demonstrates government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing economic growth in local communities. She urged residents and stakeholders to support the contractor to ensure the successful and timely completion of the project.
According to her, the modern market facility is expected to include lockable stores, stalls, warehouses, sanitation facilities, security posts and other essential amenities that will improve commercial activities within the district.
Traditional leaders and community members present at the ceremony expressed appreciation to the government and the District Assembly for initiating the project. They described the market as a transformative development that would help improve trade and attract more investors to Gomoa East.
The ceremony ended with the official cutting of sod by the DCE and a symbolic inspection of the project site by dignitaries and stakeholders.
The construction of the 24-hour market is expected to contribute significantly to economic development and enhance revenue generation in the Gomoa East District.
